The BUTBA Tour returned to MFA Firth Park, Sheffield once again this season, this time for the annual combination handicap Quads competition, hosted by the University of Sheffield. With many students competitors still delighting over some brilliant performances from the BUCS Championships, held here in late February, and a difficult oil pattern, in the form of a modified WTBA Stockholm, to compete on, it promised to be an interesting competition.
Birmingham Baker Fives Tournament Report
Sunday 9th March saw the University of Birmingham debut not only their first competition on the BUTBA Tour, but also a new format to the calendar – Baker Fives.
Students and ex-students travelled to Rugby Superbowl to compete in the second tournament of the year in which student and ex-student’s competed against one another. With the addition of Birmingham’s fives competition to the calendar along with the annual fives held in Nottingham at the start of the season, this year’s BUTBA Tour has been all about coming together as a team, and Birmingham are by far one of the best university teams out there to represent a team orientated event. To add a twist to the generic baker format, all teams played five games of five man, followed by five games of baker before qualification.
BUTBA Heads North… Leeds Met Doubles Report

The most northerly competition on the calendar saw BUTBA members travel to Hollywood Bowl Leeds to compete in the Leeds Doubles, formerly held by the University of Leeds, but taken over this year by Leeds Metropolitan University. On wooden lanes once again, all competitors were hoping for an interesting and close competition.
With the student and ex-student divisions split this time, unlike Coventry Singles, the competition to be at the top was fierce. In a six game qualification round, student teams battled it out to be in the top 8 for handicap pinfall, whilst the ex-students, with a smaller number of entries, bowled for a top 6 spot.
PBA Patterns make their debut appearance on the BUTBA Tour at Coventry Singles

Coventry Singles, at Tenpin Coventry on Sunday 26th January, saw a difference come to the BUTBA Tour, with tournament organisers Dan Frazer and Rachel Hodds putting down a PBA Shark pattern. Bowlers fought it out in the only combined student and ex-student event this season for a place in either the scratch or handicap sections, with 6 games qualification.
OOM3 – Loughborough Diamond Sixes Report

Sunday 8th December saw a change in pace for the BUTBA Tour, with members travelling to Ilkeston to play in the newly annual Loughborough University Handicap Diamond Sixes event. In the second competition of the year where students and ex-students alike were competing against one another, and with just 16 team spaces available, competition was lively. All through the competition, the students appeared to dominate, not giving up a top 3 spot for a good few games.
