BUTBA

 Welcome to the official site of the British Universities Tenpin Bowling Association (BUTBA).

The British University Tenpin Bowling Association was formed in 20XX as a result of a merge between the previous University Tenpin Bowling body (UCTBA) and the Tenpin Bowling arm of the University Sport body (BUCS). Before this merge, the sport of Tenpin Bowling has been played within Universities and Colleges since the 19XX’s. The main aim of BUTBA is to promote the sport of Tenpin Bowling to increase participation across the country as well as providing a platform for bowlers to compete.

We arrange the annual student tour consisting of :

  • 8 Order of Merit (OOM) tournaments bowled in different centers across Great Britain. Based on a wide range of different formats, each tournament is hosted by a member club spanning the reach of the country. In each tournament, competitors have the chance to win OoM points which count to an overall ranking which determines qualification to the annual masters event (see below).
  • The BUTBA Masters is an individual event based on the OOM rankings to decide who is the best individual of the year. This is a one off tournament that pits the best bowlers across the year against each other to determine the champion.
  • The BUTBA cup is a club event which pits University against University. Clubs participate in the CUP throughout the year in group stages and a final to determine who the club of the year is.
  • The BUCS Championships organised by BUCS is the flagship event of the year where valuable BUCS points are on offer for both individual performances and team performances.

All of these events give a great opportunity to bowl competitively and represent your university throughout the year. It is also a chance to get to know bowlers from other universities and improve your own bowling by competing against them.

If you are a club captain and would like to join us please contact the committee and we can give you any assistance. If your uni does not have a club then we can help you to try and find other bowlers in your uni and set up a club with the help of your Students Union. Alternatively we can put you in touch with other local clubs who you can bowl with as an honorary member.
